FERRAMENTAS DIGITAIS PARA ESCANSÃO AUTOMÁTICA: NOTAS SOBRE O SISTEMA AOIDOS

Resumo

Inobstante o número crescente de artistas a produzirem obras ciberliterárias e de pesquisadores a investigarem o tema, permanece ainda largamente inexplorado o campo da análise literária mediada por ferramentas computacionais. Considerando essa lacuna na área da literatura digital, o presente ensaio se volta para uma discussão de possíveis implicações teórico-metodológicas advindas do uso de ferramentas digitais para escansão automática de versos na atividade de análise literária. Que questões tais sistemas computacionais colocam, especialmente no que tange ao tratamento do estrato fonológico de poemas? Como (ou por que) analisar poemas previamente escandidos por um autômato pode alterar formas – ou focos – da crítica de poesia? Que papel ganha, pois, o ouvido do analista, tornado só olho diante das marcas de escansão grafadas pela máquina? Este ensaio se lança às provocações acima postuladas a partir da apresentação do software Aoidos, desenvolvido por Adiel Mittman para escansão automática de versos em língua portuguesa. Mais do que discutir a eficiência da máquina, o que se põe em questão aqui é em que medida se ressignificam alguns conceitos de poesia por um sistema como este, o qual opera de modo linear, sem recurso ao som ou ao sentido.

ABSTRACT

Despite the increasing number of artists producing cyberliterary works and researchers investigating this theme, the field of literary analysis mediated by computational tools is still largely unexplored. Considering this gap in the area of cyberliterature, this essay discusses possible theoretical and methodological implications from the use of digital tools to automatically scan verses in the activity of literary analysis. What questions do these computer systems pose, especially regarding the treatment of the phonological stratum of poems? How (or why) can the analysis of poems previously scanned by an automaton change the forms – or foci – of poetry criticism? What is the role of the analyst’s ear, turned into an eye facing the marks of the scansion inscribed by the machine? This essay discusses the aforementioned provocations by presenting the software Aoidos, developed by Adiel Mittman for automatic scansion of verses in Portuguese. More than discussing the efficiency of the machine, what is at stake here is to what extent some concepts of poetry are re-signified by a system like this, which works linearly and with no regard to sound or meaning.
