NOS ARQUIVOS E PELAS FONTES: A TRAJETÓRIA INCOMPLETA DE LUÍS JOSÉ DIAS CUSTÓDIO, UM PORTUGUÊS QUE VIVEU NO BRASIL NO SÉCULO XIX, PERCURSOS DE UMA PESQUISA CONSTANTE

Resumo

O presente artigo tem por objetivo apresentar um texto pensado e alinhavado a partir da conjugação de algumas fontes primárias que tratam da vida pessoal e profissional de um desconhecido padre que nasceu em Portugal no final do século XVIII e viveu a maior parte de sua história no Brasil, ao longo da primeira metade do século XIX,em Minas Gerais. Durante dezessete anos de investigação foram encontrados documentos a seu respeito no Arquivo Eclesiástico da Cúria Episcopal da Arquidiocese de Mariana – AEAM, no Arquivo Público Mineiro – APM, na Seção de Obras Raras da Fundação Biblioteca Nacional - BN, no Arquivo o Museu Regional de São João Del Rei – AMRSJ/IPHAN e no Arquivo Histórico da Universidade de Coimbra – AHUC/Portugal. Luís José Dias Custódio foi padre da Matriz de Nossa Senhora do Pilar em São João Del Rei e se envolveu na vida política local e regional, se destacando também por ter sido alvo de um inquérito aberto pela própria Igreja Católica e por atuar na imprensa local colaborando com jornais O Amigo da Verdade e A Ordem, ambos publicados em São João Dell Rei.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this article is to present a text thought and tackled from the combination of some primary sources that deal with the personal and professional life of an unknown priest who was born in Portugal in the late eighteenth century and lived most of his history in Brazil, During the first half of the 19th century, in Minas Gerais. For seventeen years of investigation, documents have been found about him in the Ecclesiastical Archives of the Episcopal Curia of the Archdiocese of Mariana - AEAM, in the “ArquivoPúblicoMineiro” (Public Files of Minas Gerais)  - APM, in the Rare Works Section of the “Biblioteca Nacional”(National Library Foundation) - BN, in the Archive of the Regional Museum of São João Del Rei - AMRSJ / IPHAN and in the Historical Archive of the University of Coimbra - AHUC / Portugal. Luís José Dias Custódio was a priest of the Mother Church ofNossaSenhora do Pilar in São João Del Rei and was involved in local and regional political life. He was also the subject of an inquiry opened by the Catholic Church itself and by working in the local press collaborating with Newspapers O Amigo da Verdade(The Friend of Truth) and A Ordem (The Order), both published in São João Del Rei.
